No, I’m talking about that dreaded lingering, pungent odor of ammonia, that cat urine smell… that smell all us cat owners hope visitors won’t smell when they first walk into our home.
What Causes Cat Litter Odor?
Cat urine starts to smell like ammonia very quickly. Bacteria starts breaking urine down immediately, urine contains nitrates, which are the essential building blocks of ammonia. Natural And Effective Clean Up Remedies For Cat Urine
Clean up the “miss” with paper towels first, blot clean as much as possible. Then, use white vinegar. Mix 2 parts water, 2 parts white vinegar and clean the area well. Once you clean up the pee area, I have found a light spray over of Windex also helps freshen hard surfaces. For carpets or rugs another mix that works is: 1 cup hot cup water, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 3 tablespoons of Dawn Ultra dish detergent. Leave that mixture on the soiled carpet or rug area for about 10 minutes. Blot up and then clean with a damp towel, sprinkle baking soda over the area, and cover area with a towel over night and then vacuum.
