How To Keep Dogs Out of the Litter Box

Why talk about dogs on a cat blog? Well, because 50% of all dog owners, also have a cat. And we have all heard that dogs steal cat poop… I’ll give my opinion on the best dog proof litter box in a minute. It’s estimated that 70-80 million dogs and 74-96 million cats are owned in the United States. Approximately 37-47% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 30-37% have a cat. (Source: APPA, American Pet Products Association) That is a lot of dogs and cats!

Now, if you are a cat owner, and you’ve been thinking about getting a dog, I have a great website for you to go visit, a site where new dog owners can learn what to expect with new puppies and how to teach them the rules of your homewww.newdogowners.com

But, if you are one of those dog owners, that has a cat… you know where I’m going with this thought… dogs eat kitty “treats” out of the kitty litter box. With regards to coprophagia (the fancy big word for eating poop) … your new big word for today … it is big time disgusting! Not only can eating cat poop cause digestive upset for dogs, but it can also be a source of transmission for intestinal and other parasites that can truly harm your dog.

Now I don’t want to make too big of a deal of this. Dogs eat cat feces all the time and the majority of them never develop any problems. If you suspect a medical problem and especially if the dog is showing any symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, of course see your veterinarian. But, in my opinion, the number one reason to stop the behavior is the “yuk” factor. Do you really want your dog to snack from the litter box and then give you or someone else a big old kiss or a face lick? I didn’t think so!

Tips for a Dog Proof Litter Box.

I’ve read many customers emails of all kinds of different set ups to keep dogs out of their litter boxes… the most common one is; putting the litter pan in the bath tub of the second bathroom, and then putting a chain on the door, to keep it from opening too wide, so the dog can’t get in. Okay, you lose the use of your second bathroom and then you have to fight your way in to clean the litter box. Yea, right.

I have a better idea… the easiest way to keep your dog from eating cat poop is to remove the opportunity. You need the best dog proof litter box… Out of Sight Litter Box is out of sight, out of mind. Because cats have more agility and flexibility than dogs, my patented cabinet design keeps the cat litter box out of reach of most mischievous dogs as well as inquisitive children. With the litter box located on the second shelf, most dogs can not bend to get up there. Problem solved. Go kiss your dog! Plus, you get all the other benefits of the Out of Sight Litter Box cabinet design.

Why Do Dogs Eat Cat Poop? Why ARE They So Fascinated? Your dog thinks they just undertook a stealth mission. But as you watch them lick their chops, you notice something suspicious. Are those pieces of LITTER? You know what that means: they’ve been helping themselves to the cat’s litterbox again. It’s so disgusting! And the expression on your cat’s face lets you know they aren’t impressed, either. Why does this happen?

* I use the word "stop(s)" to describe the difference (before to after) that my Out of Sight Litter Box will have on your litter tracking issues.
A legal definition might better be "will substantially reduce litter tacking by 98%". You may find a few pieces of rogue litter here or there, but you will notice such a substantial difference
that you too might use the word "Stopped" while telling your friends how the Out of Sight Litter Box changed your litter tracking issues.
